The Glengoyne Spirit of Oak Collection celebrates the time and care that goes into creating Glengoyne’s exceptional sherry oak casks and will be available exclusively in global travel retail. It takes up to six years for Glengoyne’s fine sherry oak casks to reach the distillery. The European and American oak travels from the forests of northern Spain and the Appalachian Mountains in the United States to the cooperage in Jerez in southern Spain. There, the oak is cut into staves, air-dried, and hand-crafted into casks – using methods passed down through generations. Each of these casks holds fine sherry for up to three years: and only then is it ready to house Glengoyne spirit.

Four new expressions – Glengoyne Cuartillo; Glengoyne Balbaína; Glengoyne PX, and Glengoyne 28 Year Old – tell the story of the cask journey, from oak forests to Highland distillery. The Spanish influence is clear, from the Moorish-inspired packaging to the rich, intense flavors of that come from slow, careful maturation in fine sherry wood. “We’re very proud and excited to be launching this quartet of travel retail exclusives at TFWA Cannes this year, which pay testament to the importance of the finest oak casks, and the unique effort we make to source them. The casks give our spirit 100% of its rich natural colour, and up to 80% of the flavour. So the rewards of slow maturation in fine sherry wood are there to taste – from the luxurious caramel, dried apple and cloves of the Balbaína to the extraordinary depths of the 28-Year-Old.”

Glengoyne Spirit of Oak Collection

  • With notes of toffee, apricots, and a hint of cinnamon, Glengoyne Cuartillo has a heart of first-fill American oak Oloroso sherry casks, bottled at 40% ABV.
  • Glengoyne Balbaína is matured with a heart of first-fill European oak Oloroso sherry casks, imbuing the whisky with notes of luxurious caramel, dried apple, and cloves. It’s bottled at 43% ABV.
  • Glengoyne PX is matured in European and American oak, then finished in fine Pedro Ximenez sherry casks, giving it a rich and intense flavor with fresh oak, spice and a touch of caramelized sugar. Bottled at 46% ABV.
  • Glengoyne 28 Year Old is complex and deep, with rich fruit and elegant spice. Matured for more than a quarter of a century in the finest first fill Oloroso sherry casks, it’s bottled at 46.8% ABV.

The distinctive design for the Glengoyne Spirit of Oak Collection was created by Edinburgh-based Nevis Design. The secondary packaging features a bold Moorish-inspired pattern, combining oak leaves, casks, grapes, thistles, barley, and a Moorish star, alongside the Glengoyne pagoda roof. Bringing together Scottish and Spanish influences, it traces the cask journey from the oak forests of northern Spain and Appalachia in the United States, to the Glengoyne Distillery in Dumgoyne, Scotland.

Glengoyne Distillery is owned by one of Scotland’s leading independent, family-owned distillers, Ian Macleod Distillers. Glengoyne runs the slowest stills in Scotland for a sweet, complex spirit, matured in the finest Oloroso Sherry casks. No one takes more time and care.

Glengoyne Cuartillo; Glengoyne Balbaína; Glengoyne PX, and Glengoyne 28 Year Old will be available in travel retail in March/April 2018. The RRP for these expressions will be €49.95, €58.95, €89 and €420 respectively.
