‘The Macallan Edition Series’ is the creation of Master Whisky Maker Bob Dalgarno who handpicks a unique selection of casks to offer a special, limited edition expression each year.

The series started back in 2015 with Edition No 1, which was a showcase of the distillery’s “80% of the flavour comes from our oak casks.” statement; an expression created from marrying of spirits matured in 8 different casks. In 2016, Edition No 2 came out as a result of a collaboration between Macallan and Roca brothers, owners of ‘El Celler de Can Roca’, twice voted the best restaurant in the world. Last year in October, The Macallan released Edition No 3, an extraordinary collaboration between Master Whisky Maker Bob Dalgarno and Master Perfumer Roja Dove.

And now the first glimpse of the upcoming fourth and the latest edition surfaced on the TTB database.

TTB Public Registry has been a good source of information regarding the upcoming new spirits. It should also not be forgotten that there are always possibilities the whisky or any other spirit, even with label approval, may not make it to the market for any reason. Until we receive an official statement from the distillery itself, everything we discuss here should be treated as buzz…

Based on the information provided on the labels, Macallan Edition No 4 is dedicated to the newly built Macallan Distillery. The front label reads;

“This limited edition Whisky embodies the craftsmanship & innovative design found in the new Macallan Distillery. The master distiller has handpicked casks to reflect a modern flavour profile while staying true to The Macallan sherry-seasoned oak cask maturation.”

The back label does not provide any additional insight into the expression either;

“The Macallan Edition No 4 is the fourth in a series of annual limited releases, created to reveal the mastery behind the perfect cask selection that has inspired all Macallan single malt whiskies since 1824. At the home of The Macallan in Speyside, the same passion and dedication have been captured in the architecture and design of our new world-class distillery. The meticulous attention to detail and quality found in our approach to oak cask selection delivers surprising aromas and character in this vibrant single malt.”

Macallan Edition No 4 will come with an alcohol content of 48.4% ABV. No information is available regarding the actual release date and/or pricing but if the previous releases are any indications, we could expect some time in the fall of 2018 with a price tag around £80.
